Who needs to take the Traffic Violator Instructor
Continuing Education Seminar?
The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
allows a traffic violator instructor (TVI) to substitute proof of
participation in traffic safety seminars or courses, consisting of a
minimum of 18 hours, in lieu of passing a DMV-administered written
examination when renewing their license every three years. This 6-hour
continuing professional education program, when completed annually, is
intended to fulfill that requirement of TVI license renewal.
Will this course provide information about updated laws
and DMV rule changes?
Absolutely! One of the primary goals of this course is
to keep traffic violator instructors up-to-date on traffic laws, traffic
violator school curriculum requirements, and DMV regulations. In fact,
the content is continually updated, as necessary, and your account
always remains active—so you can sign in and use this program as
a helpful resource whenever you need it!
Is the Traffic Violator Instructor Continuing Education
Seminar difficult to complete?
Definitely not! Our easy-to-read course is informative,
and it's loaded with colorful graphics and helpful charts to explain
everything you need to know to get your completion certificate. Best
of all, you can read the course material at your own pace, wherever it's
convenient for you (even on your mobile device!). And the final exam is
open-book. It doesn't get much easier than that!
Will I have to take this course again?
The term of a Traffic Violator Instructor (TVI) license is
three years; and in order to substitute continuing professional education
for the DMV-administered exam, you must demonstrate proof of participation
in 18 hours of seminars or courses. This 6-hour course, when completed
annually, will allow you to fulfill that requirement of TVI license
renewal.
If you come back to our course when it's time to renew, we'll even give you a loyalty discount on the price of the program!

What if my traffic school offers traffic safety education
in all (or only some) modalities?
TVSs—even those that offer only Internet or home
study programs—are required to have a licensed instructor available
to answer student questions. This course discusses information relevant
to all modalities of traffic school delivery, and you may be
tested on any of the material in the program. However, the vast majority
of the information applies across all modalities.
How long does it take to complete the Traffic Violator
Instructor Continuing Education Seminar?
The DMV allows traffic school instructors to substitute
proof of participation in traffic safety seminars or courses, consisting
of a minimum of 18 hours, in lieu of passing a DMV-administered written
examination when renewing their license every three years. This course,
when completed annually, is intended to fulfill that requirement of TVI
license renewal. The timed program is, therefore, comprised of six hours
of instructional time, with a short final exam that is administered at
the end.
Beyond that minimum time requirement, you are free to take as much—or as little—time as you like. The computer tracks your progress through the course. If you log out and then sign back in, you'll be taken to the "Student Center" (table of contents) page. From there you'll be able to continue with the course where you left off, and you'll have access to completed sections for review.

Can I take the course on my mobile device?
Yes! Our course has been optimized to work well on
smartphones and tablets. You can register and complete the entire
course from the convenience of your mobile device.
Will I be tested on the material?
A 25-question, multiple-choice final exam is administered
at the end of the course. Our comprehensive, easy-to-read course material
will prepare you to pass the open-book final exam on your first try, but
you're allowed three attempts. Don't worry: We're so sure of the
educational quality of our program that we guarantee you'll get your
certificate or you can take the course again for free (simply contact our
customer service department to have your account reset)! And don't forget
the final exam is open-book!
How will the DMV know that I completed this course?
You must submit your completion certificates (a total
of three, accumulating one each year for three years) to the DMV with
your application for renewal of a TVI license. We'll send a certificate
directly from our office to you upon your successful completion of the
course. Normally this process can take anywhere from 5 – 10
business days, but we do offer expedited delivery options. You may also
order a duplicate copy of your certificate. If you ever have a question
about your certificate, we're here to help!
What if I need my certificate right away?
